  • There Are Things More Essential than Saving Money

When you happen to be creating your enterprise there is a lot to think about.  One of your most significant concerns is what kind of money everything is going to cost you. Your internet site could cost money. Buying advertising will probably cost money. Finding somebody that will help you with things is going to cost lots of money. You could be tempted to cut a number of corners.  It is more than likely that you are planning to be trying to figure out at least one or two different ways that you can cut costs but sometimes doing this can hurt you. You could get incredibly hurt. Your greatest risk comes when you let yourself violate the laws that surround and protect copyright and intellectual property. Here are a handful of examples of this.

Stealing the design of somebody’s website. Downloading a free design or employing a free website builder is one thing. It is totally different to outright replicate another person’s design. Obviously the internet is vast and the chance that the original designer ever finds out about your theft is small, but it does not mean you should chance it. If you like the design and want to use it for your own site, why don’t you contact the designer and site owner and ask for authorization to either use the same design for your own site or to ask the designer how much to design something for you?

Using a picture or an image before acquiring permission. Just because a Yahoo and google image search turns up a graphic or photo doesn’t mean that the photo or graphic is part of the public domain. Google indexes images and then backlinks back to the original website on which it is displayed.  There’s no problem with this. Using the graphic or photo with your site without receiving permission from the creator or owner, however, is a violation of copyright law. If the owner discovers this, you could get sued. Always contact the image owner first for permission to use the picture. You may have to pay some cash but it is worth it if you can prevent having legal action taken against you. If you are not flush with capital, you can search for free images or those that are released under the Creative Commons license that allows people to use the image for commercial purposes. Those are totally fine for the public to use.

Stealing another person’s written written content. If you would like to use another person’s content on your own internet site, it is vital that you give credit to the original author. If you take the content from someone else’s site you should definitely link to that site. This can help you get the original writer to like you. If you do not supply credit or links to the original author, you can get in substantial trouble for copyright infringement and intellectual property theft. You’ll spend far more for the infringement than it would cost you to just link to the original or even to hire someone to create the original content for you.

It is always far better to err on the side of caution when it comes to building your business. Saving money is obviously something you need to do but just make sure that you save it legally. If you don’t the cost to your bottom line is going to be much harsher than it might have been otherwise.
